Default Jackie Robinson Rookie...

Does anyone know why the 1949 Bowman is listed as a Jackie Robinson rookie card when 1948 Leaf is his first card?

I would assume because the Bowman is more widely distributed? It seems only Bowman or Topps "count" when looking at rookie cards of that era. Like Musial's '48 Bowman for example. There were other smaller issues before it, but it's generally considered his RC.

Default Jackie Robinson rookie

1st, the Grading company's have incorrectly dated the 1949 LEAF BB cards as "1948". All 49 cards in the LEAF set's 1st series were issued in early Spring
of 1949.

The 1st series of the 1949 BOWMAN cards were available to us kids a few months after the LEAF's. And, of course the Jackie Robinson cards are in each
of these set's 1st series.

Anyhow, if you want to be a "purist" regarding Rookie cards, Jackie Robinson's first card was issued in the 1947 Bond Bread set (of 48 cards).

I hope this info helps. And yes, I'm old enough to have collected all 3 of these sets. I still have my original cards from when I was a kid in the late 1940's.

Here's the real Jackie Robinson Rookie (not a card but a premium) from 1946

Besides the 1947 D302 and D305, another issue that should be listed as 1947 is the Old Gold Cigarettes cards (2 different), on the back it says "Born 28 years ago" so it would most likely make the card a 1947 issue.
