Default Yellow Brown T206?

Is this card real? I just picked it up on Ebay last night. I know it is the ultimate beater but T206 scraps are right up my alley. Any thoughts? Sorry for the small scan.

I have seen 20+ of those (all different) and used to own a Johnson (pitching). They are real. My guess is that all the examples circulating in the hobby all came off the same scrap sheet. Others may have more information or more to say. They are very cool! Nice pick-up.

Hi Martin,

I think you did quite well on that Matty scrap.

Nice pick-up.

Thanks guys,

I won't be sure its real until I get it in the mail, although I can't imagine someone going to all the effort to manufacture one and then mess it up so much. The damage evident on this card also reminds me of damage I have seen done by other scammers.

Default Yellow Brown T206

This one seems similar to yours, Martin. I bought these 2 Gabby Street cards a few years ago. The one with the missing colors is the Sweet Caporal, and appears to be hand cut. Would be interested in comments, and knowing if other similar cards are out there.

Default I owned a similar Street T206

Years ago I traded away a similar Gabby Street T206 for my Gibson D322 Tip Top Bread card. I don't remember it having a CYCLE back, so I suspect that multiple "two color" printer's scrap must exist for this card.

Hi Johnny,

Here's the link...170460958401. Not sure how to do the shortcut to the Ebay link. Anyway, if it's real, I think it was skinned. I guess all of these were Sweet Caporal?

I know I have seen another Mathewson in the past. Couldn't find it in the archives though. Anyone remember it? I would love to see others if anyone would like to post them.

Martin

I don't think this group had the Matty but this will give you an idea of what they look like. I have seen around a dozen or so.

A few more from the hard drive of lost opportunities..

I'm sure this is known by most...

Yes all of these are handcut and will feature a Sweet Caporal 350-460 Factory No.30 2nd DIST. N.Y. back and were not issued.

Most all of the factory issued cards (full color) that were issued were issued with the following backs.

Factory No.25 2nd DIST. VA.
Factory No.42 4th DIST. N.C.
Factory No.42 4th DIST. N.C. OP

It's the OP or "scroll" cards that hide the Factory No.30 2nd DIST. N.Y. found on these scraps or proofs.

Sometimes cards can be found like the below where both factory's are seen.

I think you might want to put a zero behind that number...

Man, this one's beat all to hell. You can barely make out an impression of the Sweet Caporal back. It's pretty thin so I guess it's been skinned. Will SGC authenticate something this beat up? I think this one is a candidate for some protection.

Yello Brown Red. Looks like a little red ink made it to his lips also. Cool card. Good luck with the protection/encapsulation.
