Help on Ruth photo please, I thought the picture was uploaded.
7x9, borders trimmed, glossy.
Sorry for the mess up on the uploading. Anyone know what issue this is and a clue on value?

From the distinct name font, I suspect it's a commercial issue from circa the 1950s. The were offered mail order through magazines.

Richard, of course I'd have to see in in person to give a final opinion, but you can go by what I posted earlier-- circa 1950 commercial collectible photo. It doesn't have a lot of value, but has some some and they are collectible. It's the 'Babe Ruth' font that identifies these photos.
If the back of the photo has a papery/non-glossy feel, that is consistent with its old age. Modern photo paper tends to have a plasticy/super smooth back as it is coated in a plastic resin. Older photos don't have the resin so will have the slightly rough papery feel like on writing or typing paper. Last edited by drc; 03-15-2010 at 12:11 PM. |

At resale, you can count it as an unofficial 'Quick Opinion' from Beckett's photo advisor, as I'm Beckett's photo advisor. If it was slabbed by Beckett, that's probably what it would be labeled as.

Richard...
This is a well known image of the Babe, and was used by Goudy in the 1930's. For instance, one cool item is the 1934 R309-1 Goudy Premium of Babe Ruth. It is this same image. Robert Slatkin >> |
