There was a recent thread on the best looking card ever. I thought I'd start a similar thread restricted to black & white cards.
Here are a few nominees. My two favorites: N173 Ewing & Mascot E300 Wagner A few other nice choices: Four Base Hits Kelly W600 Waddell with green mount (if that counts as black and white) E121 Ruth photo montage pose R-309-1 Ruth Felix Mendelsohn test issue / proof of Christy Mathewson PC796 or Novelty Cutlery of Cobb & Wagner I only have scans of two: |

hmm...i never noticed honus's name was/is misspelled on the pc796?!
I'd nominate the oj with the doggie...and the e107-honus, mathewson or young...and I love that clements card with the guy reaching over into the crowd recently posted. |

After perusing my black-and-whites, all the Zeenuts and 796 postcards and Billiken beauties, it came down to these two stunners. It's a very subjective choice, of course; I look forward to what others will post as I am sure there will be cards that will blow McGraw and Ruth away.

Regardless of color or black-white, this is one of my favorite poses in my whole collection. AS with beautiful women it doesn't get better it only gets different

Novelty Cutlery Ty Cobb. There are Sepia & black & white varieties of the set. Only about 10% of Novelty Cutlery postcards are the black & white variety from my experience. Attached is a black & white Cobb. Happy Festivus to all.

Peter, spoken like a true dental nerd! Cobb's midline is certainly off but not to the extent of Tom Cruise or anything.

Rob, this one is up there as well, for sure. And I would say that the Van Oeyen Lajoie, the Rotograph McGraw and the Detroit Free Press Cobb are the nicest portrait PCs I've ever seen. As for Exhibits I love that 21 Ruth.

best individual player card -
has to be Rob D.s Lajoie - it is just a stunner. not so much Jeff's, but Rob's. A close second is David's Rotograph McGraw. WOW! I'd like to throw this card in the mix too.... ![]() ![]()

Can't decide which of these I think is best...love the Groh mushroom bat in action, Frisch's throbbing vein in his neck, Cadore's exaggerated leg kick, and the brick wall behind Hornsby. W503's are the sharpest, highest contrast black and white photo cards around and I especially love the action shots.
