Looking for a particular Old Judge for a long time with no success. Perhaps I can help. Email me at oldjudge@gmail.com and let me know what you are looking for and, if I have the card available, I will get back with images and a price. I have helped many and maybe I can help you.

Thank you, Jay for my 1st Old Judge and oldest card all in one purchase.
To top it off, it's most likely a distant relative of sorts and shared last name. Win-Win-Win. Thank you, Jay, already needing another. lol |

A big thank you to the old friends and new friends who have responded to this post. The reaction has been amazing. It is wonderful to see the number of people collecting Old Judges in so many different ways. I don’t think there has ever been a more interesting set and it is great to see so many enjoying it.
BTW, anyone reading this who has an interest in the set and does not yet have a copy of the Old Judge book—order one. This is not self serving—I don’t make a penny off sales. I just think it is a cheap investment to increase your enjoyment of, and help you make better decisions involving, this set. Books can be ordered by contacting Richard Masson at Richard@ponymass.com. |

Thanks so much for opening the vaults, Jay!
I let Jay know about the slightly esoteric bent of my Old Judge collection (outdoor Brooklyn poses), and soon enough I had a library of choices in my inbox. Agonized for a while, then finally selected one, which was in my hands in no time and as beautiful as promised. |

I've been able to build a small but incredible collection of 19th Century cards over the past couple of years thanks to Jay.
I've also sent a handful of my buddies his way looking for hard to find N172's and he's never disappointed. Always a pleasure Jay ![]() Last edited by Schwertfeger1007; 10-13-2022 at 10:09 PM. |

Just wanted to take a moment to endorse Jay here. I just received my first ever Old Judge from him - a gorgeous Tip O’Neill. Excellent communication, he answered all my questions, and fast, secure shipment. Pleasure to do business with - I’ll be a repeat customer.

Not that Jay needs any endorsements but he very kindly made two nice OJs available to me at reasonable prices and hassle-free when I was putting together a Denver team collection back in the day. Thanks Jay!

NFS. Just began collecting Old Judge within the last few months and I am proud to say I have completed the Abner Dalrymple pose run (thanks to Jay!).
Will eventually send these off to SGC, but right now I can't bring myself to stop looking at them or let them out of my sight. Thank you, Jay, for opening your vault, your time, and your knowledge. |

Brian, why stop at one copy of each pose, you can now chase the variations. 113-1 Hands on hips, feet apart a. Dalrymple, L.F. Pittsburg (B-0229-A, G) b. Dalrymple, Left Field, Pittsburg (B-0229-B) c. Dalrymple, L.F., Denvers (Fc) 113-2 Hands on hips, L/foot behind R/foot a. Dalrymple, L.F. Pittsburg (B-0232-A) b. Dalrymple, Left Field, Pittsburg (B-0232-B) c. Dalrymple, L.F., Denvers (Fc) 113-3 Throw, R/hand head high a. Dalrymple, L.F. Pittsburg (B-0230-A, Es) b. Dalrymple, Left Field, Pittsburg (B-0230-B) c. Dalrymple, L.F., Denvers (Fc) d. Dolrynigle, L.F. Pittsburg (Fa) 113-4 Bat at ready nearly vertical a. Dalrymple, L.F. Pittsburg (B-0231-A) b. Dalrymple, Left Field, Pittsburg (B-0231-B) I highlighted your copies in BLUE Dalrymple many variations spanning 1887-89. 1887 8 N172s, 1 N175 1888 1 N172*, 1 N173 1889 3 N172s You could have a dozen different N172s!, his lone 1888 example being an interesting misspelling "Dolrynigle".

A few questions: 1) When listing these out (ie. 113-1 Hands on hips, feet apart, a. Dalrymple, L.F. Pittsburg (B-0229-A, G) What does the "B-0229-A" stand for and what does the "G" stand for? 2) Are some of these scarcer than others? Quote:
So, if anybody knows of any the others available anywhere (including that misspelling, the GQ or cabinet), I'm all ears! Thank you again for your work on OJs and sharing your knowledge. Much appreciated. |

Not to derail Jay's BST entry, but I'll provide a brief explanation . . .
First, we cannot take credit for the list as provided above. This is based on the Cartophilic listing, we added hundreds of additions (including Dalrymple), but credit for the way in which the set has been checklisted is owed to the British Cartophilic Society. The Old Judge book does cover how to decode the Cartophilic listing but can be broken down as follows: B-0229-A = Leading zero type A (flying hot dog 'Old Judge' Cigarette banner) B-0229-B = Leading zero type B ('Old Judge' Cigarette typical in rectangular box, script at bottom) Fa = one of two N172 types from 1888 Fc = 1889 N172 Es = Gypsy Queen G = Cabinet If you watch for Abner's cards long enough, you may very well discover new variations not checklisted. I suspect he had more than one pose issued as GQ and cabinet, also suspect more of his poses were issued in 1888. He could have several more variants but are all likely rare, some perhaps lost to time. Let us know if you identify a new variant, good luck!!

....John "Pa" Harkins OJ's. I have a very beat PSA #1 of pose 214-1.
The ones I have seen offered were always ill timed with my available funds or were just too pricey. So...not wanting to waste your time but feel that I should just run my "Wants" across your desk. Otherwise I focus on all Chicago material. I would like to complement you and your cowriters on the extraordinary job in putting the Old Judge book out for all of us to enjoy !!!
