RED STOCKING BASE-BALL CLUB CINCINNATI CHAMPION BAT 1869 BASEBALL HISTORY--Who wouldn't want to have this in their Reds Collection--any idea where the bat resides now and a value?

I spent years 2-21 of my life in Ohio…was in HS and college through the Big Red Machine years…I always hated the Reds (jealousy) but that’s neither here nor there….just wondering how you guys feel about the current sorry state of the Reds. You and the city deserve better.

I found all of their "moves" just prior to the 2022 season to be disgusting. I barely followed them last year as a result. They were set up to be a contender.

Cincinnati is one of the best fan bases in MLB, and their fans clearly deserve better. I'm a Reds fan living in the PNW, and saw the same BS from the Mariners for over a decade. At least the M's are now viable. Lots easier to root for them than the self-imploding Reds.

Great American Ballpark should play this during the 7th inning stretch...

A salary cap would do wonders for baseball — just see how well it works in other sports like the NBA, where teams in cities like New Orleans and Sacramento have better records than teams in LA and Chicago. Unfortunately, the greedheads who run baseball have rigged the game in favor of the big market teams. For every small market team that has some success, like the Cleveland Guardians, there are a bunch of other small market teams like the Reds and A's which are doing little to get better, yet their owners are getting well-compensated through revenue sharing.

The 1938 signed Vander Meer snapshot was taken at the same time as the Willard Hershberger signed snapper that was shown in an earlier post on this thread. I didn't own this when this thread first started.
This photo was likely taken on July 1, 1938 at Pittsburgh Forbes Field, BTW.
Not long after Vandy hurled his back-to-back no-hitters...

Default Reds

This is how I remember the Reds from 1969. Listen to them almost everyday in the summer on the radio growing up in Southern Ohio.

Wow again!

A mature Matty, a very youthful Frank Robinson, and a teenage Johnny Bench all in one post. Wonderful rare photos, Paul!

Thanks for reviving this thread Tim and amazing items everyone. Especially your stuff John. Amazing...

Here's a "snapshot" in time from the Reds first photo night which later became picture day. Does anyone know which team first started started doing this or was it the Reds in 58 and is it still practiced today?

John, those are some eye-popping treasures.

I do love my Big Red Machine collection, as I grew up with them and lived/died with every game. But yours is on a whole different level. Any rational person can see how stuff from the '60s would survive, but to see those ancient and important artifacts in that stellar condition is just beyond belief!

I am particularly drawn to Reilly's RBI Award and Townley's Pin from 1869. How did they even survive, much less in that condition? The Reilly Award is stunning, and the 1869 Pin is something I never knew could exist.

I have seen that incredibly early and ornate "C" logo (formed by a belt, ball and bat) but it has always been in print. To see a figural 3 dimensional representation of that is almost a religious experience. I think the Reds should relocate their Hall of Fame in your pad!
