THE BEATLES ARE HERE! Both Capitol Records and United Artists Corp provided press releases for these historic events. This is the mega-rare original 1964 United Artists Corp. "THE BEATLES ARE HERE!" press package. Beatles1963PressPhoto.jpgBeatles1964PressPackage2.jpg Beatles1964PressPackage3.jpgBeatles1964PressPackage4.jpg Beatles1964PressPackage1.jpg Included in this package: 1. The original United Artists 9"X12" Envelope (white with red print): "The Beatles Are Here!" If you look at the picture you see left handed Paul with a cig in his right hand...proving once and for all that Paul was really dead before they got here.

Jimmy- great Beatles packet. You can tell that photo is from 1963 by the collarless jackets, which they wore only during the summer and fall of 1963. By the time they played the Royal Variety Performance on November 4, 1963, they were back to wearing collars again.

Congrats are definitely in order for that one. A holy Grail piece! The one currently in REA is not nearly as nice as yours. May I ask how/where you acquired it? A magnificent acquisition... Last edited by perezfan; 05-01-2010 at 01:53 PM. |

This is the one I had before:
http://www.huntauctions.com/online/i...=374&lot_qual= It was restored and I paid (well you can see what I paid from Hunt's) and I consigned it to Bill Mastro a few years back and said I would wait for a "nicer" exemplar. Well, after what I paid, it "sold" in Mastro's for ~$1100, and I netted close to $900 after commission, etc. So, one day I am perusing the boards here and, lo and behold, Dr. Mark Cooper, noted baseball game expert (of whom I have had his book for years) and he helped me acquire this magnificent specimen. He is the best. |

Picked up a couple of Original Type I photos of Shea Stadium. One from the 60's and the other one from Game 1 of the '86 World Series.
I have lots of memories going to Shea Stadium. Now that it is gone, I don't know what to think. Citi Field seems like a whole different venue. Sure Shea had its problems, however, I'm glad I was able to get the pair, gives me a smile from the good ol' days. Last edited by 3and2; 05-02-2010 at 11:57 AM. Reason: text |

Two Burkes and a book for me. The first photo is of Gabby Hartnett & Bill Lee (1938) and Bill Dickey on the second one. As for the book, I'm only a few pages into it and enjoying it already.

Jimmy, I must say that I've known a lot of collectors over the years, but you are by far the most "on top of things" as far as your collection is concerned. I've never seen anyone that can find these companion pieces as well as you. Nice pick up.

I still think you should change your name to the"kingofcompanionpieces" There is no doubt who "the man" is on collecting items together that relate to each other. Great Gehrig pic BTW, but not my favorite. Mark

Jimmy,
Dont forget you now need these 2 pins that were also the same pics as the Jimmy Fund pieces. The one on the right was a repro pin made in the early 80s and the one on the left is period from the 50s. The way you can tell is the name band on the repro extends more past the shoulder and is a little longer.Just another useless fact some of us crazy pin people know Last edited by batsballsbases; 09-11-2014 at 12:38 PM. |

My first vintage real photo autograph!
I picked up a 2.5"x3.5" real photo (looks to be 1950s?) of Larry Doyle (of T206 fame), autographed on the back in ink and inscribed "To my friend Edward, Best Wishes, Larry Doyle" and in pencil is written NY Giants 1907-1920. Its authenticated by JSA. I just thought it was a neat piece and decided I had to have it! When I figure out what the heck is wrong with my scanner, I will post pics.

A study in patience
I've been watching this on ebay for about a year at a $299BIN.
They finally put up for auction and I won it for much less. Great book in excellent condition. My scanner isn't big enough to get the whole book. Now I feel like Yoda. "If you wait, come to you it will!" June 1928 Strength Magazine

Thanks
Thanks Anthony, I'm hoping to hear from anyone who knows about the Harvard Cigar brand. I've seen advertising for Harvard Cigars before but none with rowing. Below a point of purchase Harvard Cigars dispenser of some kind I saw yesterday at a cowboy antiques show, plus a great ruby red color reverse glass sign that almost said Harvard....but no cigar!

This 1964 Koufax patch companion piece took me a few years to acquire, but it was certainly worth the wait. The TYPE I photo is by the legendary lensman William Jacobellis, and his work is very tough to come by.

Koufax patch companion piece
Hey Jimmy,
What a cool companion piece for a GREAT photo of Koufax that I've never seen. Where do you come up with some of these items? Do you know what year the photo was taken and what year the patch was produced. VERY, VERY NICE! Good job! |
#46
|
|||
|
|||
Not to be a buzz kill, but are you sure that the photo is the same one used on the patch? The scans make it seem that the placement of the glove and the position of Koufax's left hand are different in the two images. Even the expression on his face seems a little different. I'm probably wrong; just wanted to throw it out there.

Good eye Rob! However it's a good thing I'm not that anal about stuff like that. Here is a TYPE I photo of Gehrig and Ott and the companion piece "Famous Sluggers" booklet.
