Comparing a pitcher to a catcher is nonsensical, but I think I understand your train of thought. If you absolutely had to use a pitcher for comparison as to HOF worthiness, maybe Dizzy Dean would have been a better comparison here. Then again, maybe not. Did Mauer absoultely dominate the game like even Dean did for a split second? It was to the point where all attention was on Dean. I certainly don't recall such a frenzy with Mauer.
