I can't imagine anyone thinking that Joe Mauer doesn't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame, he has three batting titles as a catcher and his career was shortened because of injuries from playing the position. People seem to be okay with Sandy Koufax being in despite the short part of his career that was actually successful.

*short part of his short career. But why wouldn't people be OK with it? Comparing Mauer to Koufax makes no sense on so many levels.

Comparing a pitcher to a catcher is nonsensical, but I think I understand your train of thought. If you absolutely had to use a pitcher for comparison as to HOF worthiness, maybe Dizzy Dean would have been a better comparison here. Then again, maybe not. Did Mauer absoultely dominate the game like even Dean did for a split second? It was to the point where all attention was on Dean. I certainly don't recall such a frenzy with Mauer.
