Over the past few decades, there have been some high-profile finds, introducing some new or high-grade material to the hobby. Vintage unopened material seems to be the rarest of rare when it comes to these finds. I know we've all daydreamed of stumbling into an old warehouse or general store in an abandoned town, only to find a box/case/trunk full of xxxxxxxxx.
What would your unopened box be and why? Would you open it?

Unopened? At the moment I will take a case of 1961 Fleer basketball: 66 card set with two RCs each of Chamberlain, Baylor and West, plus two cards of Russell; that's 12% of the cards in each set. I would have all but one of the boxes certified as from an unopened case to be auctioned off, then open one box for fun on a livestream video.
If we gotta go with a box only, I will take a box of 1952 Topps hi #s. I'd have to auction off that sucker, though, no ripping fun for me. If I had to open the box and bust the packs, definitely 1969 Topps basketball. That would be an epic rip. If we are talking a fantasy find, gotta be a cigar box of T cards with a T206 Wagner in high grade, because I could retire on the Wagner and enjoy the rest of the collection.

I am currently working on two different unopened deals that would qualify. I don’t want to jinx by talking too much about it.

This is an interesting response. Is there only one example of the game, thus only one of each card? And if so, does that mean the ones listed on the psa pop report (e.g., Wagner, Bresnahan, etc) are cross overs?

Ryan - Yes, only one set is known. Every card is unique. Any cards that have more than one specimen in the combined pop reports have been resubmitted or crossed over.

I'd love to pull a T202 out of a pack of cigarettes. I know they're not a premier set but I feel like it would be so cool to slide one of those out of the pack.

Years ago, Ted Koch told me that years before that, he and a partner found a box and a half of 1933 Goudeys in the basement of an old drug store. When they got back to the hotel room, they opened the packs and threw away the wrappers and the boxes.
As far as the cards go, they had sat so long that the bubblegum had adhered to the card it was next to and even soaking them would not remove the gum without damaging the card. David |

Sure would be awesome. I wonder how many Ruth cards you would pull from an entire box?

Not the most impressive, but a box of 1967 Topps 7th series. Looked all over as a kid and could never find them. It would be fun opening a few packs or a box for nostalgia's sake. Agree the obvious would be fun too, t206, 33 Goudey, 52 Topps Highs.

After reading about the unopened 1948 Bowman Baseball packs and the other unopened material in that "find", I had a vivid dream that night about discovering a sealed unopened wax case of 1959 Topps High Number Baseball. Such a vivid dream, too!

No need to "daydream" for me.
Exactly, 68 years ago this month.....I spent all my weekly allowance (50 cents) and purchased ten 1952 TOPPS wax-packs. When I opened the last pack and started shuffling thru the cards, there he was.......Mickey Mantle. That was the end of my BB card collecting. I moved on to Comics, Girls, and Cars ![]() Truly guys, I still remember this event as if it had occurred this morning. I will never forget it. ![]() ![]() ![]() TED Z T206 Reference . |

How about a pack of last series 1951 Bowmans? Well, it happened to me, and, yes, I pulled a beautiful Mantle rookie. Kept it for years, then made a trade blunder and it was gone forever. Seventy years later, that one still hurts.
