If you are fine with how Barry runs his auctions then why even mention it James? When someone from another auction house mentions that another's auction is "archaic" on a message board it's going to come off sounding a little arrogant. |

Good point Dan. Perhaps I should differentiate when I'm speaking as a collector and when I'm speaking as an auction house employee. I was speaking as a collector. However, in the future I will avoid ALL topics about other auction houses. Thanks and hopefully there is no harm no foul with Barry. I was speaking 100% as a collector. Those who know me, hopefully would vouch that I'm not arrogant as I seemingly sound. |

James- the difference between your post and Sparky's is that you responded intelligently and put your name to it, while that other slugabed posted anonymously and was just plain nasty (and too cowardly to reveal his name). |

I was reading my Simpson's book the other day and Mr. Burns referred to his workers as "slugabeds". I didn't know what it meant either and just liked the sound of it. It's a lazy person who stays in bed all day. |

Whatever communication method you prefer as a customer, it's important to me to know the person I'm buying a card from is a passionate collector who loves the hobby. |

I participated for the first time yesterday on Barry's online auction and was very impressed with Barry's professionalism. First I screwed up the phone number, then I messed up on the registration rules, and called just two hours before the auction ended. Nevertheless, Barry, or whoever took care of my bid, treated me with respect and dignity. They probably spent more time on me than my bid was worth. I was only bidding on one of the lower priced cards in the auction, but he made me feel like I was bidding on the featured item. I will be back. |

Thanks Joe. This is one of the benefits of a phone auction, having positive interaction with people. It was actually me you spoke with yesterday...I'm a bit of a hermit, so the social aspect of a phone auction is part of the reason I do it. |

It was a nice auction with a little bit for everyone. Only won 2 lots but bid on a lot more. Good to see strong prices and I wish the gazillionaires would stop going after stuff I like.... JC |

Noone's voice has never changed either. I saw him on American Idol singing one of his oldies and he still sounds great. Can't say that about too many of the rockers from the 1960s. |

More significant than the fact that Barry used the word "slugabed" (which is actually a word that predated the Simpsons) is the fact that Barry was "reading [his] Simpsons book." I will let that admission stand on its own merit. |

I saw the Zombies on PBS a few weeks ago and then went back to the youtube clip from 1965, and they still sounded pretty good. But Eric Burden has no voice left and was embarrassing, and he used to be among the best. Some people age better than others. |

Barry, I saw the same PBS show and was appalled at what Eric Burden looked and sounded like. The guy has not aged well. I'm trying to forget that memory from the show. |

Brian- the auction closed at about 11:15. As far as whether lots were won by board members or not, I didn't do a survey but it was a mixed bag. Many of my customers are oldtimers and I am amazed by how many of them have never heard of Net54. But what I do find interesting is a high percentage of lots are won by new bidders, much more so than old ones. I guess many of them have dropped out of the hobby. |

Valens' last name was originally the same as a famous Dodger prodigy of the early 80s who won both the ROY and Cy Young in the same year; Big Bopper's was JP Richardson. I think his son is trying to get him exhumed or something like that.... |
