I'm so sorry this happened. Hopefully the photos will help find some of the missing cards.

Thanks for that! Looks like a good chance they're identifiable.

In two words - "Oh shit"

At some point the cards are going to pop up, hopefully they get the asshole(s) before they get a chance to break it up.

How does someone just walk off with 100 plus cards, even assuming whoever owns the table somehow left it unattended?

They were in the transportation case. Pelican case, Zion case. Whatever they're called. I believe packing up to leave.

Wow that sucks. Not a shock either. I hope he gets back his inventory. On another note, those prices are incredibly high. WOW.

This is one reason why larger card shows, Philly, Chantilly and the National for instance are cracking down on badges and not wanting people who are not dealers actually setup at shows walking around during setup and breakdown at the conclusion of shows.

If these idiots have any sense (guessing they don't) they will turn themselves in and return the case. They will be facing grand larceny charges and based on those surveillance videos are sure to be apprehended. Turn yourselves in and maybe you'll receive some degree of
mercy from the judge.

Ashish hang in there, you're going to come out of this ok.

Murphy’s law applies with sports cards. If they can be stolen, they will be stolen. I have been a victim twice. Both times, the cards were not locked in a good safe. Since the 80s, the word has been out that cards are not cardboard toys. Thieves are targeting collectors. Theft, counterfeits, fraud, etc. there are dark forces out there, so if you value your collection, guard them with extra special care.

A careless collector and his cards will soon be parted.

He is not a collector but a seasoned dealer, it would seem. Just like the Memory Lane heist, give someone an opportunity to do you and you will get done. Both situations were avoidable.

What are you the grammar police? LoL. I know he was a dealer, but my post script was meant for the collectors on this board.

My sister in law actually handcuffs her cash box to the table when she sells products at the local farmers market. Smart

That security footage is probably good enough to lead to some identification, but wonder what their plan is to move a big haul like that. They must think they have some genius plan to put in motion.

Also, I’ve never seen that guy list a card at an attractive price…but apparently he’s having some good success with it.

Ash's prices are definitely negotiating starting points. Unlike some museum pricing he is looking to deal. Not that that has any bearing on this situation. He is one of the good guys for sure and this is just shitty.

Post was for the national not Sunday. My fault for not scrolling down more and reading it and just taking a screenshot of the two. Silly I know.

Agreed! I have completed a few deals with Ashsh and those prices are starting points and he has always been willing to negotiate.

Here is his stolen post after his '52 mantle post. About 5 hours apart give or take probably an hour as Facebooks clock isn't great.

Simply put I think he took the mantles out after the show ended, listed them and then put them back in the case to go home. In theory they would be safer in the case then in an open display case that is mid tear down propped open. At least that's my thoughts.

The thieves knew what they were doing. If you ever travel abroad or even in a big US city you should be aware that thieves/pickpockets work in groups. There’s the distractor(s), the klepto and the lookout(s). You have to be wary about the most normal looking person.

If I travelled shows selling cards like this there would be a retired cop at my right hand. He would know zero about cards, would not be chatting with anyone, and would watch my stuff like a hawk. Never let cases, boxes, etc out of his sight. Sure it would be $200 well spent. Just the sign of him would be enough to send most bad guys in another direction. In NJ where I live you could even hire an active officer on his day off. My assistants would not be kids.

There were uniformed police officers walking the aisles and very visible throughout the entire show as well as a new group of uniformed expo service staff constantly patrolling the aisles during the show. However once the show was winding down, they were no where to be seen, at one of the most crucial times for potential theft..

Good point Steve, I produced a music festival for 25 years and learned fast to post security at all the vulnerable spots following the show until everybody who was not authorized had left the venue. Merch, alcohol, anything of value cuz some drunk people are dumb.

My vendors always had a buddy system during the show and especially on the load out with security back up checking in with each vendor.

Horrible what happened to Ash and I hope the perps get punished, maybe a good time to have a conversation about solutions to an increasing problem.

My emotions tell me a small explosive charge affixed to the latches of the case that will take your hands off but leave the cards intact if you get the combination wrong would meet out a little street justice.

Also like the Apple tracker idea coupled with a dye pack.

Those young men work his tables at every show and are very knowledgeable and responsible, they simply/unfortunately got worked by professionals..

I am sure having their packed items taken was the last thing on their mind, despite knowing to always be on the lookout for thieves during the show, when the card swappers and distracters normally try to take advantage of a busied employee.

As others have stated Ash is a great guy, well respected and trusted. You could leave your house keys or wallet with him and everything would be exactly as your left it. He certainly did not deserve this(nor does anyone), I think the thieves had likely scoped him out for some time and were aware of the lack of people in the booth and the absence of other people in the venue at this time of the shows as a rule and new that there would be opportunity.

All very true. I have spoken with Ash several times. He's a great guy, super nice dealer.
I agree with the comment about members talking about his prices too. They are marked high but he will deal on just about anything. This is not the time to talk about someone's selling skills. It's time to talk about who the perps are. A really nice guy got robbed.
And his son I usually talk with is one of the nicest young guys in the room too.

Agree. I'd have the hired person (it could even be a family relative or close friend) actually physically holding the expensive cases, boxes, etc,...even sitting on the floor with them.

"As we are packing up . . .that box right there with the 2 million dollars worth of cards in it . . . . that sits on your lap and never leaves. . . . I don't care if the leader of the free world walks by and drops to the floor in front of us . . . . ."

Seems like the breaking down period at these shows in the most dangerous time for organized theft

I’m hoping when these guys are caught and they absolutely will be are made an example of. Serious jail time.

Occasional I bring inventory and cash to shows worth way more than I’d hate to have stolen. It certainly gives me an uneasy feeling. I’m sure others can relate.

with the value of so many of the cards that is a good idea.
Scary how it happened and how organized and prepared they seemed to be

Hoping for some news on this case. I know Ash is a good dude and how frustrating it must be for him. My last loss by theft was a 64 Mantle PSA5 at the 21 National. Pretty sure I know who snatched that one when I turned my back for a second. Left one case out of 10 unlocked and knew what had happened immediately. The guy may have been trying to help me because it was the only baseball card in a case of graded football.

I am not really surprised, no news. I don't think these guys were amateurs..

Amazing to me how people here dance around with accusatory “questions” that take veiled shots at a well respected dealer who was massively victimized here.

Seriously, what is wrong with these people?

Ashsh is a great guy, a respected dealer and deserves the benefit of the doubt - so sorry to see this news, Ashsh. And I hope you never any of these jagoff comments that imply anything other than empathy for what happened

Hang in there, bud. Hoping for a surprise good outcome here 🤞

You are correct, Ashsh is one good dude and does not deserve idiots implying things that are so far fetched. I hope they find the perps and recover all his inventory.

Completely agree. Ash and his son have always been first class in my interactions. Hoping for the best for him.
