June 2012 Pick-Ups

[Exhibitman]

This is an 1897 woodcut printing block used for publication of a newspaper [haven't figured out which one yet] showing Jim Corbett and Bob Fitzsimmons, who fought for the heavyweight title. Note the names are backwards on the block--it was a direct transfer print [ink goes on the surface then right onto the paper]. The wood is hardwood and the printing surface is heavily crazed from the chemicals used to create the print.

This may have become the favorite item in my collection, definitely top 5. I'm a huge Brooks Robinson and Orioles fan. Although this isn't a game used jersey, it is about as close as you can get. It's a 1971 salesmen sample set complete with pants.

And to Clint, Bob, and Adam... some stellar pick-ups Gents. That Brooks uni is KILLER Clint! I never knew that there were salesman samples for uniforms. Just how cool is that!

And Bob, what a terrific machine and even better photo of your son checking it out! It looks like many memories will be formed from some father and son games played at that very machine!

Another great pick-up for you Adam. Your restoration Exhibit machine was sensational and these woodcuts are simply historic, especially for such a huge Boxing collector like yourself!

Must be a very early photo of Aaron, he doesn't even have a number on his jersey yet.

It was taken at spring training in his rookie year. However, Jimmy sent me a PM and it appears that based on the UPI stamping it is likely a restrike printed for the 1958 World Series making it a Type 2. Oh well at the price I paid I am not out very much money.
