The card(s) that started it all was a buy it now of a 1948 Bowman Enos Slaughter signed rookie for $50, and a 1950 Bowman Bob Lemon signed card for $20.

![]() Gift from my dad as we were scouring an antique shop in Snohomish, WA (home of Earl Averill) when I was 12 years old. It wasn't my first ever pre-war card (that distinction belongs to a T206 Titus and a 1933 Goudey Pepper Martin--long ago traded the Titus but kept the Martin).

My first two T206s. I like 14 years old and road my bike over 10 miles to a local card shop. Got the Schafly first, then went back for the Bush a week later. Didn't know anything about the set except that it was the same one of the famous Honus Wagner card. I didn't buy another T206 for 17 years. Now, I'm three cards shy of completing the set.
