You are absolutely correct on the postcard that you posted, Robert. I'm quite certain that Marquard does not appear on the other though. My guess is that it is not even the same Canton team pictured in the first postcard as the second. The "Canton" is in longer, thinner letters on the top postcard and more square, block letters on the second.

For those keeping track, another example of the 1907 Canton postcard has surfaced. There's no doubt it was issued in 1907 because it bears a 1907 postmark. See the E section of the BST for the images I just posted. http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...28#post1335828

I don't collect postcards so this may be a dumb question. Why is that postcard postmarked if it doesn't have a stamp or address it is being mailed to?

We won't know for sure, but it's a great question. My best guess is that someone known to the local post office mistakenly gave it for mailing unaddresed and unstamped and it was handed back or returned with their mail. Or perhaps the post office was testing out the equipment. You can see there was never a stamp affixed because the cancel extends into the stamp box.
