I would have loved to have had him retire as a Cardinal, but part of me is relieved that the Cards don't have that contract to deal with

As a Cardinal fan I HATE to see him go. On the other hand he helped to 3 WS appearances and two championships in his time there. He was paid handsomely for what he did and you can't overpay or overspend based on what he has done already - you owe him nothing for that. If you pay one player to the extent that you can't field a championship caliber team otherwise, what have you accomplished?
Wish him the best in LA. Most likely will go down as one of the all time greats and certainly the highest paid DH in MLB history by the time the day is done.

Good luck in California from year 2016 on. You're paying $25 million per for not much production, when .250 with 20 homers is a good year at the back end.... The Cardinals will be fine, we'll replace Albert eventually, and they've got lots of good young hitters coming along. |

Albert and the Cardinals both made good business decisions here.

i just heard locally that the angels are in the process of re-upping their tv deal. with albert it could be 800mil-1bil during that 10 years...so don't feel too bad for arte moreno on whether he'll get a good roi in years 6-10 from albert. i know i feel better having heard that piece of news.

Im bummed to see albert leave. Left a bitter taste in my mouth since all he said was that he wanted to be a card for life. I get that its a business and about the money though.
On the other hand, I really feel bad for all the special needs kids here that his charity supported who absolutely love him who more than likely got home from school today and saw that their hero has left town. That truly sucks. |

Do I want to be in STL forever? Of course. People from other teams want to play in STL and they are jealous that we're in STL because the fans are unbelievable. So why would you want to leave a place like STL to go somewhere else and make 3 OR 4 MORE MILLION A YEAR? IT'S NOT ABOUT MONEY. I ALREADY GOT MY MONEY. IT'S ABOUT WINNING, THAT'S IT." - Albert Pujols.
It was always about the money(and could give a crap about winning).... You should've been honest Albert it would have been easier to accept. I actually like the Angels a lot and glad he went there as opposed to other teams. I hope he and the Angels are successful. I just have a hard time understanding the greed side of it. Thank goodness for Vintage Baseball! |

pujols gave st louis an awesome discount the last contract...brought the team a couple ws and made larussa a better manager than he actually was. instead of showing him the respect and courtesy he deserved, they signed holliday to a big contract w/o re-upping pujols first. and now they tried to lowball him for a 2nd time because of this bullshit "hometown discount" thing.
people wanting to be paid accordingly to their performance level is not greedy. pujols would be stupid for not taking the angels deal. |
