The carl horner portrait of Wagner is used on at least 5 of his cards: Tip top bread / T206, E90-2 among others.

The question of issues/variations sharing the same image is one I've wondered about in the past. Collecting George Gibson cards is what prompted this thought. He has dozens of cards, and there are 3-4 images that appear quite a bit throughout his issues, but two for sure that are very common.
There is a [Carl Horner?] portrait of him used on E254, Colgan Proof, 2 different M116s, E103, D322, and is then reversed for E90-2 and and E104. If you count the two E104 versions, I guess that's 9. The most prominent Gibson image I'm aware of is the 'back' pose that's used in E90-1, E92 [he appears in all 4 sets, plus there is a blank back version], E101, E105, E106, D303, and all three T216 sets. The tally there is as high as 14 if you count the blank back E92, and, if he's in both types of D303. Once you get into counting different back variations, though, I think the winner is Ty Cobb red portrait, edging out Matty dark cap, maybe only by having his own back. There back counts for T206 are similar, if not the same, plus they both appear in all three T213 series, T214, both T215 series [plus Pirate]. Regards, Richard. |

From a single set, ie a single ACC#, and all front variations
W517 Dazzy Vance W517 Paul Waner Both cards can be found with and without a card number, and they can be found with many different color variations... quick guess, Id say at least 7-9 different variations each in the regular W517 master set*. *Not including the W517-2 Mini cards which would add a few more (color variations) to each player as both players are among the 16 different W517-2 Mini players known. |
