I think that Willis was mine once upon a time, having found it at the local shop for no premium. I had Barry Sloate sell it for me ten years ago.

Small world. I think I bought it about ten years ago. I think it was an ebay pickup, but may have been from one of Barry's auctions.

Default T206 UZIT show & tell....let's see these "blue gems"

Hey guys....if you are having a tough time finding a T206 UZIT card....or, you find one but the cost is sky-high.....then,
you have the option of acquiring a T80. These UZIT cards are more available, typical price for a nice one is $50 - $100.
And, you have acquired a very colorful gold-bordered T-card

In the Spring of 1911, American Lithographic (ALC) started producing their Gold-bordered T-cards. They issued a set of
50 military cards (T80). Of which the majority were printed with TOLSTOI advertising backs. Lesser quantities of T80's
advertise LENOX and UZIT cigarettes. And very rarely, T80's are found with the CAIRO MONOPOL or OLD MILL backs.

An ALC letter dated March 18, 1911 to Factory #30 (NY) states that a UZIT brand cigarette pack would include a T206
card and one military card in every pack. Another letter, dated Feb. 16, 1911, instructed Factory #30 insert a military
card and T206 card in each pack of TOLSTOI cigarettes.

In the Spring of 1911, the T206 era was ending and the gold-bordered (T42, T80, T205, etc.) era was commencing.

Default 460 Only Uzit/Red Hindu Question

Hi Tim,

For the few of us interested in the depths of the T206 set composition, why do you think there may only be 12 460-Only subjects that could be found with Uzit AND Red Hindu backs?

Best Regards,
Craig

Hi Craig – The reason there are only 12 possible subjects has a simple answer but the underlying factors of how it came to be only 12 are much more complex.

The simple way of looking at it is there are 46 possible red Hindu subjects. They consist of 28 subjects from the commonly referred to 350-460 Series, 12 from the 460 Only Series and the 6 super prints. Other than the 12 460 Only subjects the other 34 were not printed with Uzit backs.

Red Hindu Possible
28 - 350-460 (Uzit No Print)
6 - Super Print (Uzit No Print)
12 - 460 Only (Uzit Possible)

The Uzit subjects possible consist of 29 350-460 subjects and 46 460 Only subjects. All of the 350-460 and 34 of the 460 Only were not printed with red Hindu. Only the 12 that were printed with red Hindu are also possible with Uzit.

Uzit Possible
29 - 350-460 (Red Hindu No Print)
34 - 460 Only (Red Hindu No Print)
12 - 460 Only (Red Hindu Possible)

The composition of these two back sets puts these 12 subjects in a unique group that are possible with both red Hindu and Uzit backs.

I hope that helps and let me know if I need to clarify anything.
