Well, October has been the slowest month in a long time for me, so I figured I'd dig out a previously unposted Ruth pic. I also am putting up a pic I got from Jimmy.(Nice to have you back buddy!)

A Burke. I think it's a 60's era print. 5x7. Pic is a lot sharper in person

1927 type 1 from Underwood & Underwood. 7x9

I cannot afford vintage Bambino related items. These two news photos are the only such items I have of Ruth from his playing days. The first is from 1934 tour of Japan. The second one was taken on July 22, 1926 when he caught caught a baseball that was dropped from an airplane at Mitchell Field in New York.

Well Mark. You're the one to blame for pulling me back in.

From 1927. Here's one of my favorites...

Author George Vecsey had this to say about the larger than life iconic ballplayer...

"To this day, I still love talking about, reading about, writing about the Babe. He transcends the decades, the styles, the changes, the races, the money. He is America's beloved prodigal bad-boy son. He is baseball."

I would imagine that the majority of baby-boomer men feel the same way. I know I do...

Well Jimmy,
I feel like I'm about to get your best Pacino.

LMAO! That's classic Mark.

Here's the killer Babe that I got in a monster trade with the above mentioned Mark just a few months ago. Easily the fairest trade I've ever been involved in. Thanks again Mark...

Question about this picture or more directly, the bat Babe is carrying. Does that knob have a notch out of it or is that something on the photo itself? I know it sounds odd to even ask but given todays players, an imperfection on the knob with a chunck missing would cause the bat to be discarded. I was kinda curious to see this especially in a Ruth bat.

I'll betcha Jimmy would like to find that Ruth bat with the piece of the knob missing as his ultimate Big Bam companion piece!!

After looking through a pair of 10x goggles, it doesn't look like a chunk out of the knob at all. It appears to be a white dot that was on the negative not the bat. The scratch that you see to the right of Babe is also from the negative and not on the photo itself. The way that Babe griped his bats, all the way down to the knob, I couldn't see him feeling comfortable it there was a notch in the knob.

Here are a few pieces from his 1927 movie - "Babe Comes Home"
