When I was a kid it was a highlight of the baseball season. Now it's pretty much irrelevant, save for the winning league getting the extra home game in the Series. Fact is, I don't know half the players anymore. There were 84 players picked, including those who dropped out, which is far too many. Plus, it seems fashionable to get picked and refuse the invitation. Everything changes, and this game is no exception.

Is there really any way to stop it from happening?

And the homerun derby? Watch everyone who participated go into a slump for the rest of the season.

The whole all star thing is becoming worthless.

I agree 100%.The all star game was huge when I was a kid. There was no ESPN,so I didn't get to see to much baseball other then Phillies games, and the game of the week. It was cool to see the American League All Stars.
Now with the ability to see any team with cable,ESPN,MLB network,
it's not special any more.I will still watch a little bit of it,but its not the same.
