Hello all,
This is my first post on the boxing side of things. I do not have an extensive collection, but just missed out on a group of these cards that seemed quite cool to me on ebay. They were from the 1887 Lorillard's Mechanic's Delight. Does anyone know where I can pick some of these up? There is not a lot of information on VCP and I do not see many graded copies in the population reports. Thanks a lot. |

I saw the album on Ebay. I thought the price was quite high for six cards glued into an album. Somebody must have been confident they could soak them out with little damage.
They do bring fairly strong prices for boxing cards when they are clean. Heritage has auctioned several lots of these in the last year or two, I believe from the Joel Platt collection. |

Hi Guys
Are there cards from this set that are worth more than average (Other than John L. Sullivan) or are they all pretty much worth about the same due to the scarcity overreaching any affinity toward a certain player? Just curious how Boxing collectors view this set since it is so scarce. I would LOVE to find a Bill Poole card, anyone have one? Rhys Yeakley |

In terms of pricing, there are several subjects with premium value. Off the top of my head, Sullivan, Dempsey, Poole, Morrissey and Hyer all have been expensive, though Sullivan is head and shoulders above the others and has 2 poses to boot. The other HOFers in the set probably would fetch a premium over a basic common.
Here's Poole: ![]() His rival Morrissey: ![]() JLS: ![]()
