My story - I collect the T206 Downs cards. Emailed SGC and wanted them to slab the yellow border/frame card a couple months ago. They confirmed they would leave the card in the frame and grade it. I dropped it off at the Strongsville, OH show in April and (again) confirmed it would be left in the frame. I received a call from SGC a week later (again) asking/confirming that I wanted the card left in the Topps frame.....
Well, 3 strikes and I was out. SGC mailed the card (with others) back and it was cracked out and graded. Not a HUGE deal, but for someone looking for 'different' T206 Downs cards - it was huge. I recently picked up the light/baby blue frame Downs cards - but wish I had another yellow frame version. Lost forever..... BTW - the yellow version did come back a SGC 50. Not too bad. Just wished it was in the Topps frame... |

I never will accept the term "buyback". Topps can't buy something back that they didn't previously have. Or maybe the term refers to a card that once was out there in the hands of collectors, Topps bought it and slabified it, and then we the hobby 'buy it back'. But I don't think that's what's meant by it, back there.
Sympathies, Jon P., they really screwed that up for you. And I guess they charged you for that service. (Sorry, just couldn't forgo a chance at using "by it, back"...) Last edited by FrankWakefield; 05-31-2011 at 06:26 PM. |

Buyback is a bad term - just an authentic T206 that was 'bought back' by Topps and put in a nice frame for retail.
SGC (under prior management from April) promised to grant future fees valued at the value of the 'yellow' Topps T206 card. I listed the value at about $35 on my original submission - but now regret it. I will likely NEVER find another in a yellow Topps frame/display. I put the 'value' at what I paid for it - not what it was 'worth' to me. Lucky me, I picked up the bluish framed Topps card this month. Just don't know much about them. 2010 vs. 2002 frames... |

Jon,
They are both from 2002. The yellow border is Series 1 and the blueish border is Series 2. There is also another color for Series 3. |

I agree. I can't speak to the newer ones because I haven't bought any, but I had (and have since sold) 2002 yellow and blue borders. I remember pulling a yellow from a Series 1 pack and purchasing the blue right after the Series 2 was released. |

Jon, They also re-used or buybacked the buyback's for 2010 T206, so if you pull a card out of the 2010 product you can end up with any Series 2002 card. |

Jon, Beckett BVG will leave in frame and assign a number grade for the original T206, I have a few SGC and if they leave card in Topps frame, they will only grade it a A, unless they have switched this recently, the few I have graded are just authentic...

Interesting stuff.
Anyone get a T206 yet from the diamond dig cards? The pulldown menus for trading show 1909 as a year, but I haven't seen any available to make trade offers for. Maybe the last few buybacks? Steve B |
