Tim-
I'm sure you've considered this already, but why wouldn't you think that all the factory 42's started out dark blue, and some have just faded more than others over the years?

It might be nice to take the light blue backs you have and see if the ink on the front of those cards may also be lighter than expected. Correlation between light ink on front and back may help you figure the mystery out as well.

Michael - Because the color variations are too great. T206's that were placed in scrapbooks or tucked away 100 years ago will appear darker and richer in color than ones that have been well handled and worn but both will still be relatively the same color. The contrast in the light blue and dark blue Piedmont 42's is too great in my opinion (and I believe others) to have originally been the same shade of blue.

Hi everyone, I just joined this forum and was looking back at many of the older posts. I know this topic is a few months old but thought it would be a good idea to list my Piedmont Factory 42 backs.

Barney Pelty - Vertical Photo - Light Blue Back
Hal Chase - Blue Background Portrait - Light Blue Back
Hooks Wiltse - Pitching - Light Blue Back (and it was my first T206 card ever)
Orval Overall - Hand Face Level - Light Blue Back
Rube Marquard - Pitching Follow Through - Light Blue Back

Default Jennings light blue

Great thread...I had not previously seen it. Here's a Jennings which appears to be a lighter blue compared to some of my other Piedmont backs. Sorry about the fuzzy image.

I don't own any of these. All except for Brown are from recent NC find.
