Interesting but a little puzzling that the author/scrapbooker mistakes Joe Jackson for Home Run Baker. I assumed he would have trimmed the card himself and known that the caption was JoeJax.

My guess is that the kid collected the cards from several sources prior to putting the book together. I would say that the cards were trimmed in different ways by the different collectors not necessarily the scrapbooker. He would have been forced to "guess" at the names of some of the trimmed players.

The Nicholls card is listed as Oldring...btw, what is written on his cap? It should be plain white, correct?

Hello, i am a NEWB
I just recently bought a Ernie Lombardi on Ebay, 1934 Goudy, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT The card came from an auction held by SPC AUCTIONs. A friend, who recommended me to this site, had suggested I be very careful of counterfeit pre-war cards, so here I am. I have no idea if this is real or not, I should have the card by the weekend, what do i need to look for? I know on rookie cards like Rod Carew, Pete Rose, etc. that the fakes are 2 good and that gives them away but what do you look for on pre-war cards? This maybe the wrong forum to post this so if there is a different thread out there I would appreciate the link. I am collecting all the Hall of Fame catchers sigs if possible and when not I am going after original cards and then finally modern jersey/bat cards of the player. I need Roger Bresnahan, Bucke Ewing, Gabby Hartnett, and Ray Schalk to complete this project. Mike |

NEWB, I think you have reason to be concerned. Border and back look too white to be authentic. Of course, without seeing it in person no way to be sure.
