Thanks for posting this Leon. It's great to read these things from the early days of collecting. I hope and wish today's collectors could be aware of the beginnings of this great hobby.

Utilizing one of the "inflation calculators" available on the internet, it appears that a dollar in 1946 would be worth approximately eleven dollars today. By the looks of it vintage cards have outpaced inflation in a huge way.

Interesting to note how all deals were done through the mail and presumably with a great deal of trust even with unknown parties.
Reminds me of how my grandfather used to collect stamps throughout the world many, many years ago. He established a network of friends in many different countries with a standing agreement that he would soak off US postal stamps and send them abroad if they would do the same from their countries. As a result I now have a large (probably monetarily worthless, but sentimentally very valuable) collection of foreign stamps. A great read Leon -- thanks for sharing. -Scott |
