I would be in also. I can set up a league on espn if people want. The only hard part is finding a draft time that works for a lot of people.

Default help

Hi guys,
I'm 100% in for this! I just need your guidance as I've never done this before but have an idea how it works. I'll probably be the 1962 Mets of the League but I'll have fun!
I'm available for the draft basically anytime, so work out your schedules as I'm always around!
If any of you have a link to help me learn the process, please post it or send it via message.
I'm very happy and excited to be included!
Thanks,
Bill Hedin

Count me in if it's not too late.

I've been thinking of posting the same message for the past couple of days.

I've been doing fantasy for many years.

Yahoo offers it for free.

How many teams do you have so far?

Doug

Default So Far

We have 7 confirmed teams at this point. 1 team dropped but was picked up by another Net54 member who contacted me. Invitations were sent and there are 5 who have not responded. Please LMK if you will be returning.

Once the final 12 are in place we will need to decide on 1) should we do the 5 protectables or re draft every year and 2) what date the draft will be held.

Thanks,

Jeff

Im in for another year. Look forward to a better year. I would rather re-daft but I have a nice core team so if we stay with the keeper format Im OK with it also.

I'm in!!! if there's still room!

The Net54 Basketball March madness winner gets the Hal Chase Holding Trophy card. Maybe we can come up with a card of similar caliper and we could pass it around year in and out.

Default Me too!

I would be in as well. Considering that that's my brother (Dwilliams) above, I want to make sure that I can at least beat him in fantasy Baseball! What do you guys think about incorporating some vintage cards, as well as, a few bucks to the winner(s)? We could each donate a card, of equal value, and the winner gets three of their choice, second gets two of their choice, etc.

It would be fun, lets hear some other details.

I am in leagues on Yahoo and CBS Sportsline. I will research those 2 and ESPN and we can see what is the best fit.

I agree that the finding a convenient draft time can be difficult.

At my last count we are at 11. That is a great start and I think we can plan on 12 teams.

If anyone is still interested, please keep posting. My experience is that by draft day, there will be a bunch of teams that no longer want to participate or were not available for the draft.

I plan on doing some research this afternoon and starting to put together format and rules for everyone to review. If anyone wants to participate in the planning, let me know. My goal is to create a league that is fun, competitive and will last from year to year. I have been in one league for 22 years and we have had the same owners (from 4 different States) for the last 10 years. We draft in person in Albany NY and everyone considers it their 2nd Christmas morning.

Here are my thoughts:

We can do a 10 pr 12 team league depending on how many people want to play.

Standard 5x5 root league, meaning the categories would be:

Batting Average
Runs Scored
Stolen Bases
Home Runs
RBI's

ERA
WHIP
Saves
Strikeouts
Wins

For positions
Catcher
First Base
Second Base
Third Base
Short Stop
Middle Infield (2b or SS)
Corner Infield (1b of 3b)
4 or 5 Outfielders
Utility (can be any position)
9 pitchers (starters or relievers)
3-5 Bench spots
2 Disabled List

For buy in, $50 sounds good to me.

Maybe 3rd place gets $50, 2nd gets $100, winner gets the rest. We could also incorporate cards into this part.

As a 25+ year professional fantasy baseball player, I would steer clear of ESPN's leagues.

CBS and yahoo work much better IMHO. ESPN always has some bugs to it. If the stats don't work right from the beginning, the newbies will lose their way and not want to play again. Also, I would strongly suggest you set up rules for trading, or better yet use FAAB$$$ for free agents and play NO TRADES, like the NFBC. Much more enjoyable when you don't have the Moe, larry, and curly trades for A-rod in the first week with newbies that don't know wTF they're doing. it will destroy your league from the get go.

I'd play but I don't really want to beat the stuffing out of you fine fellas here and I don't need the money that bad. FUDD

My strong preference is Yahoo, it is free, and easy to use. I think a 12-14 team league should be fun. Everyone on here is a real fan, so perhaps making the rosters deep could make things more interesting. Be great if we could figure out a live draft!

I'd be interested in a rotisserie league (I vote Yahoo), but only if there no buy-in or at least a very small buy-in, as I'm guaranteed not to win...

Don't forget on-base percentage or slugging percentage (or OPS, which is both) as stats...

Sorry, it has been a crazy day. I will try tomorrow to get a Yahoo League set up. Good suggestions from everyone. I agree with almost all of Dan's (thanks Dan!) thoughts about categories and rosters.

Not sure about the card part (I personally don't do cards so I am not sure what I can offer). I was thinking that anyone who wanted to do cards could do it as a secondary fee? Input is welcome.

Tomorrow I will also try to post some dates for the draft.

Thanks everyone for the interest.

Jeff
