Lee and Marc
I appreciate your skepticism regarding the McQuillan / CYCLE 460 card, since both of you have probably been looking for this card for some years. But, so has Jerry, who also specializes in collecting the CYCLE 460 subset. I have been searching for certain AMERICAN BEAUTY 460 cards for 6 years, now. And, recently I found Frill and Overall (yellow sky), which I had been convinced were No-Prints. CYCLE 460 cards are tough to find; nevertheless, I do expect that all 109 possible candidates will eventually be confirmed. So now, there are only 2 other subjects [ Schaefer (Washington), and Seymour (portrait) ] missing. McQuillan played with the Phillies throughout the 1910 season. He was traded to Cinci. at the end of 1910. The CYCLE 460 timeline occurred before this trade. My point here is that there is no valid reason why McQuillan should not exist with a CYCLE 460 back. Ted, Lee has also been working on a Cycle 460 subset and for quite sometime.
For the record I take these lists with a grain of salt as too many cards are added without conformation short of "hey I've seen that" or "I have that card" post or "saw that card years ago from memory" etc.....there really needs to be more than that or the lists get messed up IMO. Cheers, John |

Nicely said John. I would love to see a scan of the two missing backs of Carrigan that the studies have shown that I am missing. Broadleaf and Coralina Bright. I'll send the first posters a common back for a scan of either of these two backs.

I believe all of these American Beauty lists are complete with the exception of one missing from the 460 series group. I was pretty sure that he was a No-Print....since he was reassigned to Jersey City (Eastern League) on July 13, 1910. TED Z Reply With Quote

Ted,
I have no problem believing that all the cards will show up at some time. But what is created is a confirmation list. Yes, there is strong evidence that the McQuillan exists but not definitive confirmation, and I believe that it is what everyone wants from these lists. Bill has always reported on his Superset list that only show up in Pop reports as such and we all know there are a few problems with those. I think a designation of Pop report no confirmation or something of the such would be appropriate. Lee

I have removed the McQuillan from the CYCLE 460 confirmed list, pending Legendary's follow-up in tracking down this card.
It was identified in their auction 3 1/2 years ago. It's a long-shot....but if we're lucky, we will get an answer to this matter. TED Z Last edited by tedzan; 02-22-2011 at 11:55 AM. |

I have read Legendary's T206 lot description (as Jerry T did), and it alludes to a McQuillan (bat) with a "Cycle" back.
I'm sure you will agree that if this card has a Cycle back, it can only be a 460....since this subject is in the 350/460 series. I agree with you that we can't always trust POP reports. In fact, I have corrected several inputs on Bill's super-set spreadsheet that were based on incorrect POP reports. Back to the McQuillan....I will contact Ron Oser and see if he can personally verify that this card in Legendary's auc- tion is indeed a CYCLE 460. I hope that is fair enough, so we can resolve this matter ? Best regards ole buddy, TED Z Last edited by tedzan; 02-20-2011 at 06:49 AM. |
