I have a friend who is a huge comic book collector and has almost a complete run of X-men up to issue 300, the 90's stuff was so overprinted that it isn't very valuble, even the key issues. I know X-men from 1-96 have some value but after that not all that great. It is a great time to buy silver age though, all the stuff from the 60's is going real cheap and is nice stuff as it is all Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Spiderman issues 252 and 300, 301 and I think 299 are really good to pick up as well as those are some keys and way down from where they once were.

Thanks Butch and Johnny for the good input.
I looked at the "free" price guide, Butch, but didn't care to fill out the personal info they were asking for. And I don't care to subscribe to any of the others as this is a one-shot deal, and I don't want to incur that expense. Can anyone give me a ballpark figure as to what the lot is basically worth, or what would be a good deal for the buyer? I want to clean house, so I'm going to give the buyer a good deal. I just want to know what a good deal would be. Net54 is a great marketplace. I value being a member and would want to be more than fair to others as they have been more than fair to me. Thanks for all help. Doug Last edited by dougscats; 02-22-2011 at 08:32 AM. Reason: updated |

Very generally speaking, comics from the mid-1970s on up don't sell for much anymore - usually 25 to 75 cents each, unless they're in exceptional condition (meaning slabbed or slabbable) or some kind of "key" or 1st issue.
If you go to mycomicshop.com, you can look up a few under their "Sell Comics" tab - that will give you an idea of demand. If they're not buying, it usually means the book is low demand/low value. If they are buying, their prices are pretty close to what you can get on eBay (net of selling expenses), and almost always better than what you can get from local comics stores. You can also check under their "Buy Comics" tab and see what they're selling your comics for, but keep in mind that as a retailer their sell prices are probably 2 to 4 times what you can expect to get on eBay or elsewhere. I looked at Kull, for example, and except for the earliest issues it looks like mycomicshop.com sells them for $1-$2 in 5.0-6.0 condition, putting them at around $0.50 wholesale. |

Being a heavy comic collector for 20+ years there are a lot of generalizations on this thread that just are not true. There are plenty of books from the 70s and even 80s that have some decent value.
From the 1990s there is very little but there are some things like Ultimate Spiderman that are post 1990s and still have some good value. There are some other odd titles from that period that have value but there are few and far between. That being said it is more likely that what you have are books that will sell for .25-1.00 each. If you want send me a full list and I can double check it for you. Just give me the title and issue number. Spawn one was insanely over printed but was also super popular and does have a touch of value maybe $5 or so. James G

Thanks for the offer James.
I've updated my original message to list all the comics I have. Perhaps you would might take a shot at Groups 2/3, if you feel so inclined? RP has been so kind as to do Group 1. I don't think theres's anything of much value in Group 2. If there's anything in Group 3 that you want specified/might be valuable, let me know. I am worn out from catalogging, so I only put in a list of the odd-titles. Doug |

I'm not trying to be a spoilsport and honestly only wish you the best, but just spot-checking some of your prices I see that most are higher - sometimes even double - what Lone Star (mycomicshop.com) is charging. And they're expert graders, who provide scans and free shipping for purchases over $50. They'd be thrilled, for example, to sell their backstock of Dazzler #1 in VF condition for $0.80 each (or anyone can buy VFNM copies on eBay for $1.00-$1.50).
I've been a comics collector for 30+ years, and IMO it's really, really difficult selling stuff like this. The shipping cost usually exceeds the value of the comics, and comics can't ship as Media Mail (some people do it anyway, but USPS has started spot-inspecting Media Mail and hitting the receiving party with the upcharges on comics - I've had it happen twice already). For that reason, low-value comics are usually sold in lots of 50+ for $10-$20 a batch. |
