Simple answer -- it's a Buck Weaver bat! While it's not from his playing days, it's got his name factory side-written on it -- is there another one of those in existence? I think the buyer got a great deal (somehow it must have slipped through the crack at Legendary -- I've bought a number of things at major auctions over the years, just because I realized they were selling for a ridiculously low price -- great bargains can still be found at major auctions).
As for the Chuck Carroll, it appears it was thrown in as an interesting coincidence, and was billed as that, nothing more -- as Jimmy would say -- a great companion piece. I was more surprised at some other bats -- the Al Lopez I thought went very low. There is maybe only one other known. True this one had condition problems, but it's incredibly rare. I thought the Eddie Collins Stahl & Dean went for a very high price, same with the early Reggie. Greg |

I won the Weaver bat, and the only reason I did so was the side writing of his full name on the side. I very much like the other Carroll bat that was included. I would think that Carroll was a barnstormer just like Weaver, and thus would not appear in the major or minor league lists. Just a guess though.
I agree that I think this bat went way cheap. Hopefully I (we) are correct! Tom C |

If Carroll did not appear in the majors or minors why would he have bats made at the factory with his name? Perhaps MGH or another expert could chime in, but why would a non major or minor leaguer have their own bats made? I'm still skeptical as were the buyers obviously viewing the Legendary auction a few years ago, but you and another bidder in the Mearss obviously felt different. Time will tell if u find another buyer in that range. I think it went high, but good luck. Ya never know. |

On a different board, someone said a different lot sold for a lot cheaper than before, so the pricing 'bounce' can go both ways.
