Default Three more "wants" removed from list

.

A good year is any year that I can remove one name from my want list.

An excellent year is any year inwhich I can remove two names from my want list.

But to be able to strike three names from that list, it had to be considered a great year.

And in consideration of all the other great autograph items I added to my personal collection this year, AWESOME would not be much of a stretch either.

My three "wants" no more:
Joe Casey Boston Old-Timers game scorecard cut (with partial G.C. Alexander signature at bottom)
Jim Walsh cardboard stock cut
Del Gainer 3x5 (from Danahy collection)

Was there something erased from the center and bottom left corner of that Gainer 3x5?

Vince,
Glad to hear that you found a few that you were looking for in 2010... Thanks again for the help locating the Alex "Miles" Main sig off my list this year. I hope that you have another successful year in 2011!

Default Scott . . .

.

glad the Alex Main went to a good home.

I believe a date 6/18/?? was erased from the bottom left corner.

Not sure what the two erased words in the center are, except that the upper of the two words starts with a capital E (attractively written I might add).
A notation by the original collector?

Perhaps another member with better photo editing software could reveal what the two words, and the year are (were).

To be honest, I was so thrilled to have won the Gainer 3x5, that I didn't give the erased words much consideration.

Default My favorite "Gas House Ganger"

I picked up this 1941 Pacific Coast League All team ball with sweet spot autograph of my favorite "Gas House Gang" player, Pepper Martin. It's from the personal collection of former Cardinal and Brownie infielder Don Gutteridge. Gutteridge was in between major league stops and joined his best friend Martin who was player/manager playing for the Sacramento Salons in '41. I originally sold it for Gutteridge, a longtime friend, in 2004 when he decided to sell off his All Star Bats, dozens of minor league team balls, etc. I was always sorry that I didn't buy it myself but when offered a chance to trade back for it recently, from the collector that I sold it to 6 years ago, I jumped at the opportunity. It doesn't have the Legendary Tony Freitas, but it's still a really tough piece with personal attachment from my friend, and I'm thrilled to have it in my collection.

Default Favorite memorabilia pickup of 2010

One of the board members was nice enough to sell me a 1924 D&M Catcher figural trophy earlier in the year. The trophy had originally been purchased from the National Pastime in Cooperstown, NY. Shortly after I received the trophy, I decided to have a master silversmith restore it to its original condition.

Here are a few before and after photos. It now proudly sits in a period mahagony display case. Somewhere in it's history, an owner glued the trophy lid to the loving cup. When the restored trophy came back from the master silversmith, I was thrilled to see that there was actually two pieces to the trophy.

Thanks,

Patrick

Patrick, that's like night & day, looks brand new.
Was it an expensive process?

Default Catcher Figural Trophy

Hi Jay,

I found a Master Silversmith in Bellingham, WA, David Friedman, that restored the trophy. Cost of the restoration was around $400.00. I would have no problem recommending his work. The trophy makes an awesome focal point to my catcher collection.
