Neat piece Jimmy...

I used to sell Post Cereals, and we always ran a distant #2 in the category(way behind Kellogg's). Post Toasties could not compete with the identical Kellogg's Corn Flakes. Neither could any of the other offerings, although Grape Nuts was our strongest with adults, and Sugar Crisp with kids. They changed the name to the "politically correct" Golden Crisp, and sales then went down the toilet...

Huskies Cereal was long-gone by the time I was selling the brand. What was it exactly? I am thinking a similar Cereal to Wheaties, but really have no idea.

You're spot-on Mark. A weak tasting version of Wheaties, with a shelf life of two years (1937-1938). But they were around just long enough to produce some neat pieces such as these...

Awesome stuff Jimmy...

Wow... only two years of production. Huskies must have tasted like cardboard. At least it did produce some incredible and rare memorabilia, if nothing else!

I posted this on the pickup thread a few months ago, but it definately applies. Based on the verbage and the info that Jimmy provided it must be from late 1938. I had assumed it was from 1939 or so. Not a bad pickup for about $15.

Vander Meer tossed his consecutive no-hitters in '38, so it makes perfect sense that Huskies would use him to promote their product during this time-frame. It all fits!

That cereal must have been real garbage to vanish after just 2 years... especially considering that Post apparently promoted it well.

In order for me to get my first "real" baseball mitt I had to eat 20 boxes of Zoom cereal in the 1960's. Talk about being horrible tasting...
Anyway, I did get my Wally Moon model glove and I will attach a picture of it one of these days when I can find it. It's been MIA for about 11 years now...

Agreed...and that belief has helped me resist the temptation to open this single-serving Huskies box for over 35 years. There's no cereal in the Wheaties box on the left, but the box backs from the single-serving size are quite rare.

Gehrig was on Wheaties boxes in 1934, 1935 and 1936, so I'm sure getting him to jump to Huskies was quite a coup for Post.

I think its probably 1880's- 90's. It has a suppliers name on the knob from Hartford that was active during that period. The bat is huge. The Campy is 35 1/2 inches, while the spalding is in the 37" range
