Jim you are too kind but I can't take credit for the Murr'y. Mr. Doug Allen showed me the Lenox back one which I now own. It was in Nate's collection for years.

Yes I seem to get abused for the stuff I keep to myself so that I can collect it like the Tip Top Orioles, can't afford them any longer.

Enjoy the Philly show!

I bought an Old Mill Doyle a while back that has a similar printing flaw. On my card the period is not completely missing just very faint. The "Y" has the same portion missing. My guess is it was a printing plate issue as someone had pointed out earlier. I also have a Doyle with Polar Bear back that has the stem of the "Y" missing, making it appear as "NV". I jokingly call it the "Doyle, Nevada" variation.

One thing I've observed in collecting Doyles, there seems to be a much higher than normal rate of incidence with printing issues on the lettering. I guess this would have to be attributed to fixing the "N.Y. Natl" error on the printing plates.

My personal opinion is that while these cards can provide clues and insight into the mysteries of T206, they are not "variations" and not necessarily more valuable.

I can't argue with that logic Marc. Your post makes good sense. But they are neat to keep an eye on. I think I had to pay a lot for my N. Y. . Doyle. Once I saw more than one with the double periods, I had to have one! Dan.

Dan,

Nice eye, will you be slabbing this and sending it to a big auction house or is this going in a screw down in your old wooden box :-)

Miss seeing you in Philly.

Best

As you can see Jim, it is already slabbed in an SGC 3 holder. That is how I found it. To answer the value and the slabbing question, it has already been BUSTED out of that ridiculous tomb and properly SLID into my T206 binder where it belongs free of any grading garbage. Did I ever state how much I HATE grading??
