I wonder if the PSA Registry set guys had something to do with the prices and if the cards would have obtained such high prices if they had been encapsulated in SGC holders

I have cracked open a large number of slabbed (PSA. SGC and GAI) T207s including a bunch of Cycle, Broadleaf and Anonymous backs. I like having the set raw and all together. I mention his because with slab cracking and cross-overs that some are doing, the pop reports are off on a number of the "scarce back" cards, because I know I am not the only one doing this. It make sense to slab them come sale time but the raw one sure look nice in sheets together

Default The flip - I'd do it

I think this points out how much work/luck there is in making things work these days. Below is "back of the envelope" with various assumptions and some stuff not accounted for (shipping/ins costs vs his fees), but it looks like

21,000 - Pick up a set at a nice price
 4,095 - Pay auction fees ... 19.5%?
0 - Shipping (lets assume local pickup)
    11 - eBay Listing fees (w/1st 100 free)

51,732 - Sell on eBay ... woo hoo
3,311 - Pay eBay Final Value fees (using their fee structure)
1,159 - Give Paypal their due (assume that everyone uses PP, and 3% avg)

22,157 - Net before taxes
7,755 - Short term Cap Gains at 35%

14,402 - Take home.

Not bad for 3 weeks work.

Default Bargains in the mix

Following up on Bob's point about Pelty, there may have been a few other bargains in the mix. Looking only at the Broadleaf class cards, I'd add the following as relative bargains at PSA 3 or better, given rarity and price for the grade.
  • Cunningham PSA 4.5, $168.50
  • Hyatt PSA 4 $224.50
  • Phelan PSA 4.5 $224.50
  • Miller (Roy) PSA 3 $270
Hartley, Herzog, Blackburne and others qualify as well, given the (relatively low) price for the higher grade. Some of the PSA 2s (Kelly $156, Peters $182) might be too, given the perceived rarity/scarcity of those specific cards.
