Ok, I know this has been a card thread up until the above team issued picture, but I always like to show this piece when the opportunity arises. Flog me if you must Leon for posting memorabilia in a card thread .
A handwrtten letter dated 10 July 1944 , written and signed by Hank Greenberg during WWII, while he was stationed in China.
I also have the envelope which he signed twice.
And yes I am also a Yid, and I grew up in the Bronx as Hank did, and I went to the same high school in the Bronx that Hank did, James Monroe HS.

Default Richard...great item

Richard- that is an awsome letter!!! It is very apropos for this thread too. I must be seen as a hard-ass out there (by members)......and that's certainly not my intention. Yes, it's nice to keep most things organized on the board but this is a hobby and is supposed to be fun. That is what I am trying to get back to. Thanks for posting the letter. regards

Default Greenberg

Hey, Brian/Zan,
Welcome. Unfortunately, I have a new scanner but have been too lazy to scan all the cards in. Maybe someday.
Leon, yes, I was also a bit surprised that card went so high, but they don't come around too often.

Greenberg is, for me, one of those rare heroes.

Greenberg had encouraging words for Jackie Robinson in 1947, saying them to him right on the ballfield. That was not exactly a popular stance to take for an opposing player in 1947.
Rachel Robinson holds him in high regard for encouraging Jackie.
