Wow Jimmy! That truly is an iconic Koufax image.... almost looks like a contortionist in his delivery. What an epic combo!

Here's a favorite photo in my collection. I thought it was cool to see Conlon's comments on the reverse, written in his hand. Now, Jimmy's post has inspired me to find Matty's 1940 Playball Card, to make it complete (the card pictured below is not mine...)

Thanks Graig... Can you please provide a few paragraphs to describe what you feel when you look at it?

Just kidding... your response to the inquiry about the other Conlon of Matty (that you painted) was so eloquent, I wanted to hear it again. That other image is much nicer... Conlon even noted on the back of this one that Matty is looking old and weathered!

You shouldn't tempt me, I love talking about this stuff. Especially when people want to listen!

But seriously, the other shot of him probably only seems nicer because there's much more of a range in the value scale. And of course, having the whole torso doesn't either. If this one had his upper body, it would be just as sweet. I feel like this is the kind of portrait shot I would make into a 9"x12" or something.

An interestingly enough, the image dates from 1912, only a year after the other one was shot. I guess he seemed much older for Conlon to write that...
