Early in 1911, ATC transferred their SWEET CAPORAL cigarette production to Durham, NC (Factory #42). The SWEET CAPORAL, Factory 30 cards from the 350/460 and 460-only series T206's that American Litho. had in stock were overprinted with a scroll to cover the "Factory 30" line; and, added "Factory #42, 4th Dist. N.C." on the bottom line of these cards' backs. Then these modified T206's were then shipped to the Durham plant to be inserted in their SWEET CAPORAL cigarette packs.. All 109 subjects in this sub-set have been confirmed...... 350/460 series........................63 cards Ames (hands over head) Baker Bender (no trees) Berger Bradley (bat) M. 350/460 series confirmed 35 subjects (complete)
1......Ames (hands over head) 2......Baker 3......Bender (no trees) 4......M. Brown (Chicago) 5......Chance (portrait-yellow) 6......Chase (blue) 7......Chase (dark cap) 8......Cobb (red portrait) 9......Davis (A's) 10....Donlin (bat) 11....Doolan (bat) 12....Dougherty (arm in air) 13....Downey (bat) 14....Larry Doyle (bat) 15....Elberfeld (Washington-fielding) 16....Evers (Chicago-yellow sky) 17....Griffith (bat) 18....Johnson (pitching) 19....Joss (pitching) 20....Kleinow (Boston) 21....Konetchy (glove low) 22....Magee (bat) 23....Mathewson (dark cap) 24....McIntyre (Brooklyn & Chicago) 25....Murphy (batting) 26....O'Leary (hands on knees) 27....Reulbach (no glove) 28....Rucker (throwing) 29....Seymour (throwing) 30....Snodgrass (catching) 31....Stahl (glove) 32....Street (fielding) 33....Sweeney (fielding) 34....Willis (throwing) 35....CYoung (glove) These 12 confirmed subjects are the only SWEET CAPORAL 460, Factory #42 cards in the 460-only series. Furthermore, these 12 appear to be more available with the SWEET CAPORAL 460, Factory #42 backs than the above listed subjects in the 350/460 series. ![]() ![]() 1......Crandall (cap) 2......Devore 3......Duffy 4......Ford 5......Gandil 6......Geyer 7......Hummel 8......McGraw (glove at hip) 9......Pfeffer 10....Sheckard (glove) 11....Tannehill (Chicago) 12....Wheat NOTE The SWEET CAPORAL 460, Factory #42 and the red HINDU cards are "matched pairs". I don't think this is just a coincidence. It's my opinion that both these backs were printed simultaneously (circa....Winter 1910 / Jan 1911). So far, the Ames (hands over head) card is an exception to this rule. But, I expect that this Ames will eventually be discovered with a red HINDU back. TED Z . |
