While a single-signed ball or jersey is always a popular option, I would recommend finding something that is both unusual/rare to see signed, yet also would also appeal to a widespread crowd. The yearbook idea is only one such suggestion.

Default Baseball

I would almost certainly have him sign a Gene Budig (AL President in 1994) baseball, on the sweet spot. It is much easier to display than a basketball, and carries with it the story of Jordan trying baseball for the White Sox in 1994.

The biggest poster/photo you can find, or a a nice No Label SI with him during his NC days. No sense getting what everyone else has (balls etc.), get something different as this is a once in a lifetime shot. Or even a rookie card Fleer card. Buy a PSA6 (so you don't get stuck with a repo) and take a hammer to it.

I would look for the Jordan Ali poster get that signed and then pay five hundred to get Ali. Poster will be a couple of thousand or more in the next few years.

Default Rookie Card

I think I'd go with the rookie card.

First of all, if you are giving your kid something to take to camp, to have signed, you have to think about possible damage by transporting, storing the piece at camp until Jordan shows up. A poster, photo, card, etc. could easily be damaged if not cared for. A kid could easily drop it or spill something on it. With that being said, I think the item that would best "travel" with a kid would be a basketball. You can keep it in the box and he can still sign it while in the box.

I would go with a Fleer rookie. I would get the highest graded one I could afford, crack it out and have it signed. Just my 2 cents.

Default I'd say....

a jersey is my choice. They really look awesome framed. Signed on the number on the back is best.
