It's not Jim Stinson. The seller doesn't travel to Cuba himself, he just sells stuff for a few people that do.

Dammit, that Tomas Gutierrez Andy Cooper card didn't come up on my eBay search engine - or I would have nabbed it! If anyone here won that and wants to make a profit... kwi207@aol.com

His location says "Dominican Republic" and his user profile has a photo of him. He might really be down there.
So are Cubans not allowed to use eBay? |

I have bought some stuff from this seller before and I ended up winning the Oms Billiken the other night with a reserve price of $999.99, which I thought was a steal even though it looks trimmed. Future HOF if they ever let Negro Leaguer's back in, IMO.
The return address on the packages are always from Florida but on EBAY it says they are out of the DR. Who knows, who cares, he has some nice stuff from time to time. This past Friday night was a fun night if you were a Cuban collector, sure the Punch's went for good money (cheap still, if you can say $11,000 and 8,800 respectively are cheap) but the Tomas Gutierrez's went well below "market" value. $11000 for the Cobb is one thing, but $8800 for the Punch common seems crazy.

It was Bruce Petway. He's sort of an iconic catcher among negro league collectors.

Thanks for the info Kenny. Did not know who Petway was. or why his card climbed to that level.

Whoa buddy, I think Petway is more than just a common.
Funny story, check this out. Back in 1910 these Punch cards were made to honor the Tigers coming to Cuba. Everyone's favorite bigot ball player Cobb was thrown out 3 times in one game trying to steal second----------and who threw him out all 3 times?? That's right, Mr. Bruce Petway, one of the best defensive catcher around at that time. Oh yeah, he could hit a little as well. Negro baseball, after 100 years of researched facts.................still getting no love. Last edited by mannybb24; 06-14-2010 at 02:49 PM. |
