Hey Mike. Was that Pete Sampras standing over Ted? It sure looks like him.

Jimmy, it does look a bit like Sampras. Funny thing is, I've never taken a real close look at this photo and just assumed it was John Henry...which is not the case. I do know that I miss those days when all the Hall of Famers would do shows out here on the West Coast. I'm actually looking forward to the show coming up in July that will have several people signing, including Gary Carter and Dick Williams, both of whom I need in my hof book.

Mark (Perezfan),
You better not show that Moxie stuff to Jimmy. You know him and companion pieces. He's got the bottle and the type 1 pic. Beautiful stuff, everyone. Here's a few contributions Mark

Rick,
That Baseball Magazine cover pic might be the best action shot of Ted I've ever seen. That would be great in a type 1. A couple more and much to my sadness Mark

Crappy Luck
Ok here you go for the crappy luck story of the day.
I got this pic a few weeks before Nixon passed and wasn't able to get it out to him. A few years later, I found this one, but as you may have already guessed, I got it a few weeks before Williams passed. Does anyone else want me to get their picture?

Geez Guys,
I can't even be blamed for taking the picture. Apparently all I have to do is buy your picture! Hey, I hear Wonka has a way with pictures. Perhaps he can merge the pic together to make one complete Pic.

Sorry. If it makes you feel better, I think you'd have had to get the photo in front of Ted months (or years?) earlier in order for him to sign it. Both are great photos on their own.

I agree... these are just terrific on their own, and can easily be framed/matted together if so desired. In a way, they're almost neater this way...
No need for such remorse, as these are both wonderful and thought-provoking pieces. Thanks for posting! |

Ted Williams bat...
circa 1970-71 Manager Ted Williams used BAT before games as skipper of the Senators, un-cracked and shows tremendous use. Exact model ordered by Williams during the time period. PSA/DNA Authentic. Graded GU-9.

The piece was gotten for me as a birthday present request by a person who knew Ted very well--then Sports columnist & reporter for the Providence Journal Bill Parrillo (RIP Bill), who went south & covered the Red Sox every yr at spring training.

Being a collectaholic, I also collect
Russ/Wallace Berrie figurines that were popular in the 1960s and 1970s. I assume this one, dated 1970, that I just picked up at a thrift store is intended to represent "Teddy Ballgame" - note the "B" on the hat and the "9" on the back of the shirt.

Here's something different -- foul ball hit by Teddy Ballgame in 1959. This comes from a large collection of fouls balls snagged by a Cleveland man who had season tickets in the front row down the third base line at Municipal Stadium. Williams and Mantle are the only stars -- most are from guys like Jerry Lumpe, Earl Battey and Willie Kirkland. They are all dated between 1959 and 1963.

Hey Allen---
If you went by the captions a couple of them were a little tricky--like Pesky was the reg SS & only played a few games at 3rd, while Boudreau played some at all 3 --SS, 3rd & 2nd--and Vern Stephens was the reg 3rd baseman.!
