So, with that said, what card(s) would you buy or suggest buying at these various levels:

$100
$200
$500
$1000
$5000 and up

Im intentionally leaving this open-ended to keep the ideas flowing. Feel free to be as specific ("this T206 Nap Lajoie") or general ("an E91 card") as you would like.

Thanks for your input!
I understand you leaving it open to get more ideas flowing but I would still have to go back to the real question of "what do you enjoy?" If you are a set collector then that is one thing. If you are a type collector that is another. Do you like black and white cards or color? Do you like caramel or tobacco? Do you like cards that have backs, or are blank backs ok. If you can tell us what you are interested in then it might help with some suggestions. If your answer is "well, I don't really know"....then I will assume it's type cards and can give some good suggestions.

It is a good question overall.....

I focus on HOFers, so Im not tied down to completing any one set. I just try to find (an affordable) example that I like for each player. Unfortunately, I tend to get tunnel-visioned on certain issues. Like many collectors, I started with T206s for many of the earlier players, but Ive grown to discover and like the Caramels and others as well. I wasnt always fond of some of the blank backed B&W (Goudey Wide Pens, eg), but sometimes it's hard to overlook how affordable they can be in comparison to their substitutes.
