Don't overlook some of the record albums released in the 1950s and 1960s as a way of tapping into the great baseball voices of the past.
I really recommend finding "The Best of Waite Hoyt in the Rain" and "Waite Hoyt Talks Babe Ruth". Hoyt broadcast the Cincinnati Reds games for years and during rain delays he would tell stories of days gone by...that's what these two albums consist of. Hearing him tell the tales with the sound of the rain pounding on the Crosley Field roof...well, it doesn't get much better than that. Both albums are readily available on ebay (disclaimer: not mine); they might be out on CD or on the web. And to pile on the previous posts...there's a large number of 1950s broadcasts (particularly Brooklyn Dodger games) out there to be had. |

There are plenty of fragments that were used in old retrospective shows but I don't think the whole games were in circulation. Buyer beware: some of the highlight records include modern "recreations". |
