Because someone will be upset. In reality; Chicago (Rosemont) *IS* the best place for the National now and in the future.

I second that motion - only a 3 hour drive up I-35 for me.
All in favor?

My guess is that 2014 will wind up on the West Coast somewhere, maybe Anaheim again.......

Back in August, there was a thread on suggestions for improving The National.
http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=114661 Mike Berkus was kind enough to come on and give some of the thoughts and logic behind their planning. If you don't have time to review the whole thread, he made some key points in posts #79 and #115. The first factor they have to consider is available floor space at a convention center. They shoot for a minimum of 300,000 sq. ft. Baltimore will be the tightest ever with 290,000 sq. ft. I think Cleveland has over 500,000 sq. ft. available. Very few cities offer this much space on one floor, in one location. After that, you get into things like set up costs (This eliminates NYC.) Then you look at hotel rooms available, transportation, etc. This thread explains why many cities aren't even considered. |

I would love to have one on the West Coast. With 7 kids, I would have to sell my collection just to pay for the airfare and motel.

KC boast several convention centers capable of this. We have the Staples center, convention center, and we are wasting more money for a new arena for what ever else. There are alot of hotels and transportation options. Food and entertainment is within walking distance for most. The laid back atmosphere is great also. Who gives a crap about STL. I grew up there and they don't hold a candle to KC when it comes to these things. Who do I send my opinions to???? |

Andrew,
You got my vote. There are a couple places on the Kansas Side that are large enough for this as well. The Overland Park Convention Center comes to mind - and not just because it's 20 minutes away from where I live either! ![]() |
