Looks like boxing, pre-1890's. Possibly as far back as the 1870's. It's possible I guess it's 1890's, but in a retro pose for the time.
No idea who the characters are. They've got the right gear to be legit bareknucklers, though the poses seem a bit clumsy for anybody with a bit of experience in the sport.

Looks like awkward amateur boxers. If I'm seeing it right they're wearing street shoes and socks.
