I try to avoid adding serious cheaters (steroids users) and Judge Landis items to my collection. When they are part of a set I want, I simply turn their card over when mounting them in collector's sheets.
Landis, incidentally, is singled out for his attitude toward integration of baseball. The steroids users (esp. longtime abusers) obviously steal from the game, their competitors, the fans and, ultimately, themselves. That Baseball seemed to care little for the game's integrity for too many years reminds me that I should add Bud Selig to the list also. (Except I can't think of any set he has been included in that I collect.) I do, however, give Selig credit for naming the DH award for Edgar Martinez but that call may fall under the category of a Stopped Clock Being Right Twice a Day. (What would be his other good call?) |
