I collect both the famous and the infamous - but nothing after 1960.

BTW, I love Steve Bilko!

Though I dislike the Cubs very much, I'm an equal opportunity collector. I won't reject a card based on personal feelings.

I'd prefer to not collect the truly despicable people in baseball history, such as Ben Chapman, but it's hard to stick with that when you're collecting a set and he's in it ('33 Goudey, for example).

I won't collect B&W cards...think they are ugly.

Try very hard to stay away from SGC graded cards. Most of the time I will crack them out (using only my fingertips)..although I still have a few.

Just curious as to why you stay away from SGC cards. Is it because they are so easy to crack out?

Sorry if this was previously discussed in an old thread.

I won't collect O.J. Simpson cards. He used to be one of my favorites. But now, he just doesn't cut it.

no better time then now, the prices of his cards have been slashed!

You can now get "two for the price of one!"

For antiques, I consider them to be historical figures-- which will be good, bad and complex--, so will collect the perceived good and bad. Besides, the bad are often interesting.

It's different for modern players. For example, I won't collect ARod, Mark McGwire or Barry Bonds. Maybe in 100 years.

It may be telling that my favorite old player is Ty Cobb (bad boy) and my favorite modern is Robin Yount (good boy).

I agree with Jason on the Cubs. White sucks are not high on my list of needs. However, the team I despise the most would be the St. Louis Cardinals. Their fans are obnoxious and the players are cocky. Not a good combo platter in my book.

Default Steroids and Judge Landis... and maybe Selig

I try to avoid adding serious cheaters (steroids users) and Judge Landis items to my collection. When they are part of a set I want, I simply turn their card over when mounting them in collector's sheets.

Landis, incidentally, is singled out for his attitude toward integration of baseball. The steroids users (esp. longtime abusers) obviously steal from the game, their competitors, the fans and, ultimately, themselves.

That Baseball seemed to care little for the game's integrity for too many years reminds me that I should add Bud Selig to the list also. (Except I can't think of any set he has been included in that I collect.) I do, however, give Selig credit for naming the DH award for Edgar Martinez but that call may fall under the category of a Stopped Clock Being Right Twice a Day. (What would be his other good call?)
