DanP,

I haven't read the OC article (issue #4) in some time, so it may
say otherwise, but keep in mind that the American League was
established in 1903. Without checking every single player in
the set and matching the teams they played for (which would
give an accurate time frame for when this series was issued),
and considering the rather archaic printing means of the period,
I would venture to say the set likely was issued as a promotion
in early 1904 - shortly after the very first World Series.

Thanks Eric.

So it could be argued that for AL Players who have both 1904 Fan Craze and 1903-04 E107's their "RC" (or 1st card) could be either a E107 or a 1904 Fan Craze? There would be no real proof that the E107 was actually produced in 1903 (except for a team change during that period, which I don't believe any AL HOF'ers had).

I'll stick with the much less expensive Fan Craze cards for AL HOF'ers unless there's real proof that the E107's were sold in 1903.

I guess this topic is similar to the 1916-1920 Big Head discussion going on in another thread.

Dan

Wasn't it proven that all Fan Craze cards (both leagues) were produced in 1906?

edited to add: maybe not proven, but widely believed to be 1906?

Wow. I just noticed that this thread was resurrected from 2010! I need to start looking at dates before I respond.

I don't remember seeing it mentioned but although they're commonly referred to as Breisch-Williams the name was changed to the Williams Caramel Company very early in 1903.

LOL....me too. I have looked so many times and was like, what the heck, this thread is 15? years old!

I still think the best thread ever was Dorskind threatening to sue Archive aka himself.
As for the dating of E107, I will go along with what's said in the thread.

and a card

Based on some team designations, the WG2 American Lagerican Fan Craze cards were surely produced in 1906, the same year as their WG3 National League counterparts.

Lave Cross is pictured with Washington. He was purchsed by Washington on Dec 23, 1905.

Beany Jacobson is pictured with St. Louis. He was traded to St. Louis on Dec 8, 1905.

Will Sudhoff is pictured with Washington. He was traded to Washington on Dec 8, 1905.
