When you walk into SGC the walls are decorated with some tremendous tobacco related sports and non sports advertisements. When I inquired about the signs I was told the owner of the company collects them. Obviously the owner of SGC has other hobby and collectible related interests other than cards. Why do you have to sell and deal cards from your own company? It probably would not be as bad if the cards in question were from PSA (I assume everything was SGC), at least it's the competition and the inference that their was some favoritism might not be quite as strong. This way, SGC's owner could still pursue his love of cards but not with his own label. Or maybe he thinks that PSA is such a slipshod company he would never trust any high grade cards in their slabs. Who knows if the owner of SGC could influence the graders. Their honesty may be beyond reproach. But, if you deal your own companies cards surreptitiously through an auction house the doubt will always remain. If the Mastro blow-up never occurred we would have never known what was going on, just more industry business as usual.
