The 1938 issue, called W711-1, has 23 cards and the 1939 issue is an update of the 1938 and has 27 cards. As you might expect, there are some different players added in the 1939. The main difference comes on the back where a player's stats are added or his age changed or a team change is noted, among other things. The SCD guide explains it well. A bunch just sold a couple months ago and some went for a good buck (over $100) but most went for less. Based on the number of bids, I agree with Anthony in that it is thinly traded and doubt they have been reprinted.

I really need to pick up the SCD book. I will ask him to send me a list of the names and try to get a better idea on which year these are from.

Thanks for all the information so far!

Darren- if you could correct the spelling of Cincinnati in your title you would make me a happy man. Thank you, it's just a fetish of mine.

I'm obsessed with correcting the spelling errors on the board...if Leon made me a moderator, I could sit down every night and edit all the posts that had misspelled words. It would be my personal heaven.

I"d like to nominate Barry for co- Mod in charge of all things spelling and Seinfeld related, and hope that our benevolent dictator, Mr. Luckey, will look upon this nomination favorably. (Or favourably, if Barry has any English blood in him)

Great looking cards Darren, looks like a mouse may have gotten to Vander Meer's portrait card.

Yeah, that is definitely the worst in the bunch.I just need to figure out values for these cards. Some of them might be going to PSA to get graded as I think they could get a bit more. I am selling them for my Uncle and want to get the best price I can for him.

I bought four of Darren's cards off the BST and wish to report that it was a most satisfactory purchase. Our communications were cordial and the cards arrived in quick time, each in a penny sleeve and top loader. Further to the point, the cards looked good, passed the taste test, were identical in size etc compared to another type card I already had and stayed dark under a black light. Thanks for the sale, Darren.

Those are great looking cards, David. The W711-1 set is one of my all-time favorites. Also, you've proven my theory that cards always look better when they're scanned against a black background. It's so much easier to see what the corners and edges look like. I wish more sellers would do the same ...

I agree David, Darren was great to work and communicate with. I picked up quite a few of his Reds cards, haven't scanned as yet, but one was the infamous Vander Meer that looked like it had two bites taken out of it, but like I told Darren, "It fills a "hole" in my collection.
