This was on my baseball calendar today:
" Who is the only Hall of Famer to hit a home run in his first Major League at-bat ? |

I think it's been done at least twice by a HOFer. Earl Averill and Hoyt Wilhelm both did it.

Hoyt Wilhelm did it and never hit another in his career.
What player had exactly one career home run, and hit it in the 22nd inning of a game? |

Other interesting facts about the guys who have homered in their first MLB at bat:
It has actually happened 102 times. 19 of those players (Wilhelm and 18 others) never homered again in the majors. The Arizona Diamondbacks had 3 different guys do it... in 2009! Now the follow up question: Which one of these 102 guys hit the MOST career home runs? |

Gary Gaetti with 360.
Carlos Lee and Jermaine Dye both have a reasonable chance of passing Gaetti. |
