Thats a very nice Yound there Jim. Did you have it graded or buy it already slabbed? If you had it graded what were your thoughts when it came home?

I bought it graded and about a year later had it reviewed at the National. They did not change the grade on review. I think it is a no-brainer 60. A two full grade drop seems fair for the chip. The card is near-mint other than the chip. It seems like they (both PSA and SGC) are more lenient on chipping on issues like T205, T210, and T204 where it is more offensive visually than a chip like this on a white-bordered card.

Jim,I also feel that your Young card deserved a better grade than that-that card is awesome.Even with a spider wrinkle on Andrews card,I still feel it deserved a better grade.I have sent in cards that I for sure thought would come back at least a 40,and they came back a 30.I've also sent in a GAI slabbed T206 graded a 3,and it came back SGC 50,,,,,,,,,,,as far as grading goes,I feel SGC is the best at overall grading-they are the only ones I have grade my raw cards.Andrew, bottom line is-you still have one beautiful looking card there(and it didn't come back an"A')........regards,Clayton

Amen to that. I do think Jims card is well deserving of a 60. Thats how it works though

Pup I don't see how that card could have come in a 5 or 60 with a small crease some minor loss on the left side edge and the stain or mark on the back. I'd say you are lucky it didn't come in at SGC 40 which it easily could have if you ask me.

Unfortunately, the grade is correct technically. Ya' can't get a 5, generally speaking, with any wrinkles. It's just that easy. I think the grading companies are caught between a rock and a hard place on some cards. IN the end they have to give the technical grade or there would be less consistency. We all have cards like this one in question. They are great collector cards but aren't great for the registry game....regards

Default grade

As most of us have said many times and here is a great case in point, Buy the card not the grade.

All I've gotten out of this thread is that I still covet Jim's purple Young. Anytime you're ready to sell Jim - you know where to reach me
